Professor-Researcher attached to the Biology program of the Universidad Tecnológica del Chocó (UTCH), leads the Research Group on Wildlife Management of the Chocó; From there, he works mainly in the training of human talent with the ability to study tropical biodiversity and generate the knowledge that is required for sustainable management.
His research interests are focused on the knowledge and conservation of the biological diversity of the Choco region. Currently evaluating forest harvesting systems practiced in the region, their impact on diversity and the possible definition of some of these as sustainable, using various biological groups (especially bats) as bioindicators. Additionally, he work in increase knowledge about the problems in the fauna-human relationship, which includes the transmission of diseases, food security and cultural valuation of biodiversity. Recently, he is working to strengthen the academy's relationship with the Colombian environmental authorities, so that the existing scientific information is used in the management of the environment and its biodiversity.
He is a Biologist, graduated from UTCH (2000, Colombia), Master in Tropical Biodiversity Management (2004, Universidad San Pablo CEU, Spain) and a PhD in Ecology and Environment (2013, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain)
At the level of intellectual production, he currently coordinates the edition of the scientific journal “Biodiversidad Neotropical". Professor Jimenez has published more than 50 scientific articles, 19 books, 10 book chapters and more than 60 presentations at scientific events. He has been the principal investigator of various research projects; He is a researcher in the associate category and peer evaluator of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Colombia, through which he has been able to contribute to numerous works by researchers from various universities and research centers.
At the administrative level, he has been, program director, dean and vice-rector of research in charge, director of the Center for Research on Biodiversity and Habitat from UTCH; likewise, in the Environmental Corporation for the Sustainable Development of Chocó “Codechocó” he has been deputy director of Quality and Environmental Control, deputy director in charge of Sustainable Development, Deputy Director of Planning and General Director in charge.
Profesor-Investigador adscrito al programa de Biología de la Universidad Tecnológica del Chocó (UTCH), lidera el Grupo de Investigación en Gestión de Vida Silvestre del Chocó; desde allí trabaja principalmente en la formación de talento humano con capacidades de estudiar la biodiversidad tropical y en generar el conocimiento que de esta se requiere para una gestión sostenible.
Sus intereses de investigación están enfocados en el conocimiento y conservación de la diversidad biológica de la región chocoana. En la actualidad evalúa sistemas de aprovechamiento del bosque que se practican en la región, su impacto sobre la diversidad y la posible definición de unos de estos como sostenible, utilizando varios grupos biológicos (en especial murciélagos) como bioindicadores. Adicionalmente viene trabajando en incrementar el conocimiento acerca de los problemas en la relación fauna-humanos, que incluye la transmisión de enfermedades, seguridad alimentaria y valoración cultural de la biodiversidad. Recientemente viene trabajando en fortalecer la relación de la academia con las autoridades ambientales de Colombia, de manera que la información científica existente, sea utilizada en la gestión del ambiente y su biodiversidad.
Es Biólogo, egresado de la UTCH (2000, Colombia), Máster en Gestión de Biodiversidad Tropical (2004, Universidad San Pablo CEU, España) y doctor en Ecología y Medio Ambiente (2012, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, España)
A nivel de producción intelectual, en la actualidad coordina la edición de la revista científica “Biodiversidad Neotrópical”. El profesor Jimenez, ha publicado más de 50 artículos científicos , 19 libros, 10 capítulos de libro y más de 60 presentaciones en eventos científicos. Ha sido el investigador principal de diversos proyectos de investigación; es investigador en la categoría asociado y par evaluador del Ministerio de Ciencia Tecnología e Innovación, a través del cual ha podido aportar a numerosos trabajos de investigadores de varias universidades y centros de investigación.
A nivel administrativo ha sido, director de programa, decano y vicerrector de investigaciones encargado, director del Centro de Investigaciones en Biodiversidad y hábitat en la Universidad Tecnológica del Chocó; de igual manera en la Corporación Ambiental para el Desarrollo Sostenible del Chocó “Codechocó” ha sido subdirector de Calidad y Control Ambiental, subdirector encargado de Desarrollo Sostenible, Subdirector de Planeación y Director General encargado.
